Promise Mkwananzi After Nelson Chamisa’s Resignation
When Nelson Chamisa resigned from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in 2024, Promise Mkwananzi, who was the party’s spokesperson at the time, declared himself the acting president of the CCC. This decision was made following Chamisa’s departure, which left a leadership vacuum within the party. Mkwananzi’s announcement was formalized through a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, indicating that he would take charge of the party on an acting basis until a congress could be convened to elect a new leader.
Chamisa’s resignation came after he described the party as “contaminated” and “hijacked” by the government, stating that he would have nothing to do with what he termed “sewer politics.” The move by Mkwananzi fell through, however, and the party later announced a Citizens National Assembly to lead the party.
