Born in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, Rachel J was raised in Gweru by her grandmother, Gogo Phoeby, a peasant farmer, after the loss of her parents. Her upbringing in a challenging environment instilled resilience and determination.
Rachel J completed her high school education at 16 before pursuing a diploma at a local college. Her quest for knowledge led her to South Africa, where she pursued a degree in Fashion and Interior Designing.
Rachel J embarked on her music career in 2016 with her debut album, “Triumph,” a gospel dedication to her grandmother. Not limiting herself to a single genre, she released various singles and albums, including “Makwikwi Reloaded,” “Njiva,” “Bada Boom,” “Ngoro,” “Hallelujah,” “Strong Black Man,” and “Fambai Mberi.”
Beyond music, Rachel J’s entrepreneurial flair led her to establish an interior design company, catering to prominent personalities in Zimbabwe. Her business interests span mining, transport, logistics, fruit and vegetables, fuel, luxury buses, and farming under Jarach Investments.
Rachel J faced controversies, notably in 2019 and 2020. Allegations surfaced regarding her lifestyle and relationship with former Finance deputy minister Terence Mukupe. Reports emerged suggesting her involvement with South African-based cleric Shepherd Bushiri.
