Audrey Chimwanda Biography | Education, Career, Personal Life

This is the biography of Audrey Chimwanda a Zimbabwean journalist currently based in South Africa. She gained prominence as a former anchor on Africa News Network 7 (ANN7), where she presented the Africa Tonight program.

Education

Audrey attended Regina Mundi Secondary School and later transferred to Chaplin High School for her A-Levels. Subsequently, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree at Women’s University in Africa, where she also completed an internship at the Public Information Department.

Career

In 2003, Chimwanda unintentionally ventured into television hosting, securing her first role on Youth.Com, a youth-oriented magazine show. Over the years, she showcased her versatility by co-hosting Hospitality Zimbabwe in 2006, promoting tourism across the country. Additionally, Chimwanda presented the highlights of the Harare Agricultural Show for two consecutive years starting in 2010, conducting interviews with various business figures.

Her journey in broadcasting continued as she transitioned from radio news presenting at ZiFM Stereo in Zimbabwe to her role as an anchor for Africa Tonight at ANN7 in South Africa. The opportunity at ANN7 arose when she applied for a position in Multichoice SA’s marketing department, leading to an unexpected offer from the newly established 24-hour news channel.

Chimwanda concluded her tenure at ANN7 in 2018, marking her departure with the last broadcast on April 26, 2018. In the period from 2004 to 2011, she was employed as a corporate sales executive at Realtime Technologies.

Personal Life

At one point, Audrey was engaged and moved to South Africa with her former fiancé. However, the relationship became toxic and abusive, which led her to leave him. She attributed the challenges they faced to financial pressures, as she had relocated to South Africa reluctantly at his request. It was after leaving that relationship that she reignited her passion for broadcasting and began searching for job opportunities in South Africa.
