Career
Matanda-Moyo has a distinguished career, initially serving as a magistrate and later as a State advisor in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. She also worked as a State Counsel in the Criminal Division of the Attorney-General’s office, handling cases in the High and Supreme Courts.
Progressing through various roles, she held positions such as Director of the Civil Division and Director of Public Prosecution. Her judicial career saw her become a Judge of the Labour Court in 2009 and a Judge of the High Court in 2013.
Before she was appointed a High Court judge in 2013 by then-President Robert Mugabe, Matanda-Moyo served as the president of the Labour Court and Director of Public Prosecution in the Attorney General’s office. Additionally, she served as the Chairperson of the Land Acquisition Task Force and represented Zimbabwe in international human rights cases.
In March 2019, Matanda-Moyo was appointed as the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Appointment as Prosecutor General
On October 5, 2023, Matanda-Moyo assumed the role of Prosecutor General, succeeding Kumbirai Hodzi, who resigned on medical grounds in 2022. This marked a historic moment in Zimbabwe, with Matanda-Moyo being the first woman to hold the position.
Husband
Loice Matanda-Moyo was married to Retired Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Busi Moyo, a key figure in the military intervention by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in November 2017.
