Family

Tamy Moyo was born and raised in Harare. Her mother Doris Moyo and grandfather Mr Makwara played pivotal roles in her upbringing. Tamy’s father is Richard Kohola, also known as RK The Music Doctor, a prominent Star FM Presenter.

Education

During her formative years, Tamy Moyo did her primary education at Lusitania Primary School. Continuing her studies, she later enrolled at Westridge High School, where she pursued her secondary education.

Music Career

Tamy Moyo’s music career began at the tender age of 7 when she discovered her passion for singing while being part of the senior choir. During her time in Grade Two at Lusitania Primary School, she already showcased her vocal talent. Continuing her musical journey, Tamy attended Westridge High School and, at just 13 years old, found herself sharing the stage with international artists like Joe Thomas and performing alongside local talents such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Stunner, Ba Shupi, and Alexio Kawara.

At the age of 13, Tamy became the Child Ambassador for Childline Zimbabwe, using her platform to make a positive impact. In the same year, she released her debut album, titled “Celebrate Yo Lyf,” marking a significant milestone in her budding career. Tamy’s passion for using music to address social issues and promote justice led her to become involved in charitable work, including spearheading the formation of the Uganda African Choir for a charity gig at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

In 2016, at the age of 18, Tamy Moyo made a significant mark in her career with the release of her album “18th Roller-Coaster.” This 6-track album propelled her into the spotlight, garnering immense support from her fans and catapulting her to fame.

Continuing her musical journey, Tamy Moyo released the music video for “Kwandinobva” (meaning “Where I Come From”) in 2019. The captivating video, produced by DJ Tamuka, further showcased her talent and artistic vision. That same year, she also unveiled two more singles, “Tekere” and “Zviroto,” solidifying her position as a rising star in the music industry.

In 2020, Tamy Moyo had the incredible opportunity to be featured on Coke Studio Africa, one of the continent’s biggest music shows. This platform allowed her to collaborate with talented artists such as Lourena Nhate from Mozambique, Abush Zeleke from Ethiopia, and Zimbabwean producer Young DLC. This collaboration not only showcased her versatility as an artist but also expanded her reach and audience across Africa.

Throughout her career, Tamy Moyo has graced some of Zimbabwe’s most prominent festivals, including the Harare International Festival of the Arts and the Shoko Festival. She has also been featured at events like the National Arts Merit Awards and Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, captivating audiences with her soulful performances.

Interestingly, Tamy initially aspired to become a lawyer to combat societal inequalities. However, she realized that music had the power to advocate for social justice and effect positive change. With her thought-provoking lyrics and powerful voice, Tamy Moyo continues to pursue her passion for music, using her platform to address pertinent issues and uplift her community.

Acting Career

Tamy Moyo’s artistic prowess extends beyond music, as she made her acting debut on the silver screen in the captivating film, “Gonarezhou,” released in 2020. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Sydney Taivavashe, the movie carries a powerful anti-poaching message.

In “Gonarezhou,” Tamy showcases her versatility by portraying the character of Chipo, a young girl with big dreams of becoming a world-renowned singer. Alongside her lover, Chipo fearlessly pursues her aspirations, only to face unexpected twists and turns that drive the drama forward.

When asked about landing the role, Tamy revealed that Sydney Taivavashe, already familiar with her talent as a musician, reached out to her. She was asked to provide an audition clip, which impressed the director and ultimately led to her securing the part. Tamy’s on-screen presence in “Gonarezhou” demonstrates her potential as an actress and marks the beginning of her promising acting career.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Tamy Moyo also worked on another short film titled “Goredema.”

Brand Ambassador

Tamy Moyo’s influence and talent have earned her the prestigious role of ZIMOCO Brand Ambassador. In this capacity, she represents the renowned automotive company and its products. Tamy’s collaboration with ZIMOCO reached new heights when she was given the honour of being the first person in Zimbabwe to drive the Haval Jolion, a remarkable vehicle launched on 25 June 2021.
