Airline Tickets and Boarding Passes: What You Need to Know

An airline ticket is an official document or electronic record that confirms an individual’s entitlement to a seat on a flight operated by an airline. Typically, there are two types of airline tickets available: paper tickets which include coupons or vouchers, and electronic tickets, which are commonly referred to as e-tickets.

To check in at the airport and board the aircraft, passengers must present their airline ticket, either in paper or electronic format, to obtain a boarding pass. The boarding pass, together with the attached ticket, grants the passenger permission to board the aircraft and take their reserved seat.

Basic Information Required When Buying A Ticket

To purchase an airline ticket, you will need to furnish specific details about your trip. If you are making a booking online, the initial information required typically includes the departure and return dates (if applicable), the airports for departure and arrival, and the number of passengers for whom you wish to buy tickets. These details are vital to helping you find and book the most suitable flights for your travel needs.

Air Zimbabwe Fares

  • Normal Fare
These fares come with minimal or no restrictions and are identified by the letters Y for Economy Class and J for Business Class. Passengers can stay for a maximum of 6 months on domestic flights and 12 months on international economy flights. Tickets purchased on these fares are typically refundable, and travellers can change their travel dates and routes with ease. Additionally, passengers can make open return bookings within the ticket validity period.
  • Special Fares
Most passengers opt for the extensive category of fares, which offers greater flexibility than special fares. Generally, the cheaper the fare, the more restrictions are imposed, and such fares are typically non-refundable. Special fares have fixed dates of departure and arrival, and changing these dates is either prohibited or comes with significant penalties. In rare cases, it may be possible to rebook the ticket for different dates at a higher cost. Refunds for special fare tickets are only granted in exceptional circumstances.
  • Business Class
With this fare, passengers are entitled to a comprehensive and premium travel experience, including an enhanced checked-in baggage allowance. Take advantage of the priority check-in service, which can help you save valuable time at the airport. Additionally, you can make use of the luxurious Business Class lounge facilities to relax and unwind before your flight.
