Gamuchirai Duve, also known as Gamu, is a multi-talented Zimbabwean artist, actress, script supervisor, and businesswoman. She was born in Masvingo but grew up in Kadoma before moving to Harare, where she is currently based. Gamu is a loving Christian and is married, and her totem is Ngara, Maphosa!
Early Life and Career
Gamu revealed that before she began her acting career, she was once a model, and was nominated at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton. She alludes to the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi for choosing her for a role in a film by Culture Fund known as Kurauone. She always thanks God for that. She also wanted to be a DJ before acting, which is why she used to listen to the radio more.
Gamu’s acting career began in 2012 when she filled in for an actress who did not show up to work on a film called Kurauone, a Zimbabwe Culture Fund film. She enjoyed the experience and continued to feature in a number of ZBC productions as well as some independent films. In 2018, she was introduced to Comic Pastor by Gonyeti, and Comic Pastor asked her if they could work together. She agreed, and this collaboration led to her becoming a household name in Zimbabwe.
She is most known for acting in collaboration skits with Nigel Tha Slick Pastor, Patricia Putsai, and Comic Pastor. Gamu has also done script continuity and script supervision for a number of ZBC productions behind the scenes.

Gamu’s talent and hard work have earned her recognition in the Zimbabwean entertainment industry. She was nominated for the Best Actress in Lake International Pan-African Film Festival for her role in the TV show Kushata Kwemoyo. The show also won the NAMA Outstanding Screen Production award in 2018, and the Best Feature Film award in 2019.
Gamu has a growing social media brand and has seen corporates engaging her brand in multiple partnerships, advertising, and brand ambassadorships. She also has a YouTube channel where she posts her productions, in which she collaborates with multiple talented Zimbabwean actors. Gamu loves collaborating with others and believes in sharing her talent with others.
Sadly, Gamu lost her baby boy on December 27, 2022, a day after his birth. She shared her grief on Facebook and thanked the doctors and nurses for their expert care and support. Gamu said she will always miss her boy.
In November 2019, Gamu attended the annual Lake International Pan-African Film Festival (LIPFF) held in Kenya, where she was nominated for the Best Actress award for her role in Kushata Kwemoyo. Although she did not win an award, she described the experience as an eye-opener. She also stressed the need for local filmmakers to work extra hard and submit more films to international festivals.
