Sinikiwe Nikki Kademaunga, also known as Nikki Kademaunga Zhiva, is a  motivational speaker, beauty blogger, and digital creator from Harare, Zimbabwe. Despite being born without fully developed limbs, she has overcome numerous challenges and has become an inspiration to many. Sinikiwe is known for her positive outlook on life and her advocacy for people with disabilities.  Her journey is a testament to her strength, determination, and unwavering spirit.

Background

Sinikiwe Nikki Kademaunga was born in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, and grew up in Rusape’s Gandanzara area. When she was born without hands and knees, her family initially struggled to accept her disability as it was considered a curse from God at the time. Kademaunga’s parents passed away when she was young, and she was raised by her grandmother, who played a significant role in shaping her life.

Sinikiwe Kademaunga was born without hands and knees, which presented unique challenges for her and her family. With the support of her grandmother, who took care of her from the age of two, Sinikiwe learned to be self-reliant and developed a strong sense of determination.

Education and Academic Achievements

She attended St. Faith’s Primary School, which was conveniently located near her home. Her grandmother’s teachings on self-sufficiency and independence enabled her to excel academically. Sinikiwe achieved three As, four Bs, and one C at the Ordinary Level examinations. She continued her education at the same institution and obtained 10 points in her Advanced Level examinations. Sinikiwe’s academic success paved the way for her to study Social Work at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Husband, Children & Family

Sinikiwe Kademaunga is married to Reuben Zhiva from Gokwe. Their wedding took place at the Talent Village in Mabvuku. The couple’s love story is filled with genuine affection and support for one another. Despite societal misconceptions and doubts, Reuben has been a pillar of strength for Sinikiwe, proving that disability does not diminish one’s ability to love and be loved.

Sinikiwe and Reuben’s wedding was a unique celebration, showcasing their creativity and innovative solutions. Since Sinikiwe does not have fully developed limbs, they found a way to exchange rings by designing a necklace-shaped ring for Reuben to place on her neck. The wedding was a joyous occasion, attended by friends, family, and well-wishers who showered the couple with gifts and support.

Sinikiwe and Reuben have expressed their desire to have children in the future once they both completed their studies.   In June 2023, Sinikiwe and her husband were blessed with a beautiful baby boy.

Advocacy & Blogging

Kademaunga’s journey as a disability advocate and digital creator began with her blog, where she shares her experiences, challenges, and aspirations. She aims to shift societal mindsets and raise awareness about the realities faced by people with disabilities. Her blog has garnered warm responses and recognition, including being honoured with a Courage Award by the Zimbabwe International Women’s Award.
